BAYERN SUFFER SHOCK DEFEAT

Bayern Munich will be heading back to the basics on the training ground after the shock defeat at the hands of Mainz. Bayern Munich's form in recent weeks has certainly been extremely poor and a major source of concern for the Bundesliga leaders. With the latest defeat to Mainz, they are no longer the leaders of the German League, and have fallen back into the third. Dortmund have seized the opportunity to go top of the table. It was only recently that Dortmund managed to beat Bayern Munich. Not many would have thought that Bayern Munich would have suffered yet another defeat so soon.

DORTMUND CLOSE THE GAP

Reigning Bundesliga Champions Borussia Dortmund closed the gap on leaders Bayern Munich to just two points with a dramatic 1-0 victory in Munich, despite a late Bayern charge.

The main talking point before the game was the return of Bayern talisman Arjen Robben, however there were to be no celebrations for the flying Dutchman as his side failed to create chances in the first half, and left their assault too late to trouble the on-form Champions.

Mario Gotze was the man who provided the game's only goal, taking advantage of a cruel deflection to slip the ball into the bottom corner.

DORTMUND STAR WARNS BAYERN

Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller insists that the Bundesliga title race is still wide open - and that Dortmund are finally in the right form to start taking on the German Champions.

Having run Bayern close last season, Dortmund are keen to continue pushing for the top spot, and lie just three points behind the Bavarians.

"Sure, Bayern have an exceptional team with strong individual players, but they haven't won the championship title yet," Weidenfeller told the Bild.

BAYERN TREAT VISITORS WELL

In Saturday’s match against Hoffenheim, Bayern finally treated their viewers to 90 minutes of football of the highest class. With the Champions League round of 16 just 11 days away, the reigning vice-champions of Europe put on a display that was dominant at both ends of the pitch for the entire match.

BUTT DEMANDS IMPROVEMENT

Butt has demanded improvements from defending Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich to turn the corner. A 0-0 draw at home to Cologne at the weekend followed the same result against Werder Bremen a week earlier.

Before that, Bayern Munich lost 2-0 at Kaiserslautern and can count themselves somewhat fortunate to have beaten Wolfsburg with a late goal on the opening day of the season.

All that is too little, given their ambitions, and Butt has called on his team-mates, who reached the UEFA Champions League final last season, to put things right.

BAYERN NOT TO RISK STARS

Louis van Gaal has said that Germany should not risk playing Bayern Munich stars in the Denmark friendly. Louis van Gaal said that the match was much too soon for his players, who have only recently returned from the World Cup tournament in South Africa.

Bayern Munich players who played on Germany’s international squad include Miroslav Klose, Mario Gomez, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Müller and Philipp Lahm.

Bayern Chasing Ji Sung Park

Bayern Munich are eyeing a close season move for Manchester United's South Korean international midfielder Ji-sung Park, according to a report from The Daily Mail.

The German giants are apparently readying a £7 million bid for the player, whom they see as an important part of their rebuilding process.
