Manchester United lining up possible move for Bayern Munich ace
Manchester United could reportedly revive their interest in Renato Sanches with Jose Mourinho keen to add a central midfielder to their ranks.
The Red Devils have been pursuing a deal for Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier in recent weeks, but an agreement looks highly unlikely with Spurs reluctant to place a price on their prized asset.
According to The Guardian, the Red Devils could retain their interest in Sanches, who previously snubbed a move to Old Trafford for Bayern Munich last summer. The Portugal international was largely used from the substitutes’ bench during the previous campaign, and it is suggested that the Bavarian giants would be prepared to offload him for £40m this summer.
The Europa League holders will nevertheless have to fend off interest from AC Milan, who have spent fees in excess of £160m on ten players during the transfer window. Sanches has not quite lived to his expectations since Portugal’s Euro 2016 success, and United could return for his services, should they fail to strike a deal for Dier.
Dier has been earmarked as Mourinho’s top target to fulfil the holding midfield role, and the club are will lodge a ‘final take or leave offer’ worth £60m in order to pursue the England international. The former Sporting man has been a prominent figure in the Spurs lineup in recent seasons, but most of his playing time has come as part of a defensive three.
Sanches managed just six league starts under Carlo Ancelotti last term as he often found himself behind the likes of Xabi Alonso and Arturo Vidal in the pecking order. Alonso has called time on his professional career, but this has not done much to help the Portuguese with the likes of CorentinTolisso and Sebastian Rudy having arrived at the club this summer.
