Mandzukic Confirms Leave Of Munich

Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic has finally confirmed rumours that he is set to leave the German club at the end of the season. The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal over the last few months. This is because manager Pep Guardiola is reportedly unhappy with his playing style, which does not fit into his philosophy. Guardiola is a fan of small players who like to play the football on the ground. Mandzukic, though, is a player who made his name due to the physical style of football that also helped Bayern Munich lift three major titles in 2013.

Mandzukic has stated that he will leave the club in the summer despite being offered a new contract since he feels that he cannot play in Guardiola’s system. Mandzukic was an important player for Bayern as they managed to beat the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona in recent years. However, he was least effective in the two legs of the semi-final against Real Madrid. He is widely expected to join Chelsea, who have announced a deal to sign Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid. This is because the club will still have opportunities with the likes of Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku leaving in the summer.

"At Bayern it was fantastic. It's a fantastic club. Indeed, until recently I didn't even think about leaving, and especially that it would happen now. Let's be honest, the style Guardiola wants at Bayern doesn't suit me. In the first leg against Real in Madrid (in the Champions League), I definitely understood, no matter how much I try, I can't get the best out of myself with this style. When it's like that, I don't feel good and it's best for everyone that we part,” said the striker about his future.
