Barcelona To Rival Real Madrid For Bayern Munich Defender
It's no longer news that Bayern Munich defender David Alaba will be departing the German Bundesliga club at the end of the season, and he is already a wanted man currently even though the transfer window is not open yet for business. The Austrian international star who can play in any position at the back four and also in defensive midfield has told the bosses at Bayern that he will be leaving the club after they failed to meet his contract demands.
Last month, it was reported that Chelsea were interested in signing him and the report also claimed that the Blues had already met with the player's agent for a possible transfer discussion. However, those rumors have died down and it is no longer looking likely that he will be joining the London club.
A few weeks after the Chelsea links, Real Madrid then surfaced as another interested club on the list. The Los Blancos were touted to be another likely destination for Alaba, as Zinedine Zidane is said to be a huge fan of the player. But, just like the Chelsea rumors, the Real Madrid speculations also died down and remained in the waters.
Now, the latest club to have been linked with Alaba is Real Madrid's bitter rivals Barcelona. The Catalan giants will reportedly head into the summer transfer window and try to get players who manager Ronald Koeman deems fit to be a part of his rebuild of the club. The most recent reports are all suggesting that Alaba is one of the first names on the list of Koeman's targets and that he has already given the Barcelona board the green light to go all out and get the player despite what it may cost.
With Barcelona currently facing some crises, it doesn't look feasible that they will sign Alaba, paving the way for Real Madrid and Chelsea to make a move.
