BAYERN LOSE FIRST PRE-SEASON GAME
German champions Bayern Munich have lost their first pre-season game this summer after they were beaten by reigning Premier League winners Manchester City in the United States of America on Saturday night. In the battle of the champions of Germany and England, it was City who emerged victorious at the end of the friendly game thanks to the first half strike from Norwegian international striker ErlingHaaland.
Ex-Molde and Red Bull Salzburg attacker Haaland was making his debut for Manchester City and he scored the only goal 0f the game within 12 minutes of his first match for the English champions off the assist from Jack Grealish. City made a huge transfer coup by signing Haaland from Borussia Dortmund ahead of European champions Real Madrid this summer. The Citizens paid the release clause in his Dortmund contract to sign him ahead of the new English football season which starts in a matter of days. Getting a quality striker such as Haaland for just £51m in transfer fee is a masterstroke for Manchester City.
Manchester City have played two pre-season friendly matches this summer including the Bayern game. Haaland was not involved in the first game as City beat Club America 2-1 with the help of two first half goals. Belgian playmaker Kevin De Bruyne was the star of the game after he scored the two goals for City.
German champions Bayern Munich have also played two pre-season friendly matches this summer just like Manchester City. They beat MLS club D.C. United 6-2 before the loss to City as stated earlier. New signings Sadio Mane and Matthijs de Ligt scored for the first time in a Bayern shirt during the D.C. United game.
Bayern Munich will face RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup when next they take to the field with the game scheduled for Saturday, while Manchester City are also inaction next on Saturday when they face Liverpool in the Community Shield.
