Manuel Neuer could leave Bayern Munich in the future, says Agent
The agent of Manuel Neuer has indicated that the goalkeeper may consider a fresh challenge away from Bayern Munich, should the club fail to keep up with the Europe’s elite. The German champions have won the Bundesliga crown for seven seasons on the bounce but they have not been a force in European football.
Speaking to Bild, Neuer’s agent said that the goalkeeper is determined to win the 2020 European Championship with Germany while he also has the ambition of winning another Champions League title with the Bavarian giants. He added that the shot-stopper has concerns that the current squad is not competitive when compared to the top Premier League sides and a departure from Bayern could be an option for Neuer during the final stages of his career.
He said: " He wants to win Euro 2020 and he wants to win the Champions League again. Manuel is success-oriented. My impression is that the gap to the top four English top teams is already serious and the Munich squad is currently not yet as competitive or set up to tackle Manuel's goals seriously. When he realises that Bayern are responding, then he will probably blossom again. He does not want to retire in 2021. Now he is in the phase in which he has to decide: how will things progress in the future? Signing a contract extension and ending his career at Bayern is of course the obvious option, but it's not the only one."
Neuer has been far from his best since recovering from a foot injury last summer and he has made the odd mistake which was not present in the past. Nonetheless, he continues to remain the first-choice when it comes to the goalkeeping duties for Bayern and it will be interesting to see whether the club are capable of staking claim for the Champions League crown next season. Bayern begin their pre-season tour with an International Champions Cup game against Arsenal in Los Angeles, California.
