Niko Kovac Disappointed after Freiburg Draw
Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac claims that his team are extremely upset and angry after the draw with Freiburg last weekend. Bayern Munich had a dominant performance over their opponent’s who do not perform well when it comes to of away matches. Freiburg were in a defensive mode throughout the 90 minutes, but they were able to come up with a late equaliser to snatch a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena. This extended the winless run at home for Bayern Munich to 4 matches in all competitions. Bayern last picked up a home victory more than a month ago.
“Niko Kovac came under intense pressure a few weeks back after his Bayern team went on a very poor winless run that stretched to almost 6 matches.“
As a result, Bayern are no longer leaders in the Bundesliga while the Champions League campaign also is in a similar position. Just when it seemed that Bayern were coming back on track after some decent performances in the last few matches, they have had more dropped points at home. This has allowed Borussia Dortmund to build the advantage is even further. After being appointed as the new Bayern Munich manager only in the summer, Kovac is “under a tremendous bit“ of pressure in order to prove his doubters wrong. Bayern, though, have fallen four points behind their rivals Dortmund after this result.
“Against Augsburg we lost the points in the 89th minute and [against Freiburg] was the same. These were four points that are missing now. We're angry and sad about that. This is the sport and this is life. We have to play the next match in three days and we want to win it. In the second half we mostly played near the goal of Freiburg. We had to pay attention because they had two strikers in front who could hold the ball up, so the others can follow [on the counter-attack],” said Kovac.
