Niko Kovac Happy with Positive Response against Mainz 05
Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac was extremely pleased with the attacking display of his team after they were able to come up with a six-goal haul against Mainz 05 on Saturday. Goals from Kingsley Coman, Alphonso Davies, and Robert Lewandowski were able to put a comfortable victory for Bayern Munich, who were also able to enjoy the biggest contribution from James Rodriguez through a hat-trick. As a result of this big victory, Bayern Munich were able to go top of the table. There was a lot of disappointment surrounding Bayern Munich after the exit from the Champions League, but this result has raised hope about a positive conclusion to the 2018-19 campaign.
Manager Niko Kovac claimed that this result was a positive way to respond to the Champions League exit at the hands of Liverpool. Bayern have been highly inconsistent this season but they have done extremely well to claw back a 10 point deficit to Borussia Dortmund – with a little bit of a help from the former table leaders. Now, Bayern have a lead on the goal difference front and they take on a disappointing Freiburg outfit just after the Euro 2020 qualifiers – in which most of the Bayern players will be taking part.
“After having reclaimed the top spot in the table following a significant gap, Bayern will be looking to maintain this position.“A compliment to the lads. We’re pleased we’re at the top again. We saw a lot of zest today, a whole lot of verve, very many good moves. Taken altogether it was a deserved win and the right margin of victory. Now we can work calmly and with focus in the two-week international break,” said Kovac. Borussia Dortmund may have received a huge psychological blow with this “latest set of results and Lucien Favre may find it difficult to turn around the situation.
