Robert Lewandowski blames his teammates for missing out on top scorer award
Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has placed the blame on his fellow teammates after he missed out on the top goalscorer award in the Bundesliga.
The Bavarian giants celebrated their fifth consecutive league triumph in the German top flight last term, but it is not a happy point on a personal view for Lewandowski.
The Poland international missed on the Bundesliga's top scorer award to Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (31) who managed a goal more than himself in order to prise the way the accolade. In an end of season interview, Lewandowski openly blamed the quality of his teammates as he failed to bag more goals during the recently concluded league campaign.
Bayern were largely less threatening under Carlo Ancelotti than they have been under Pep Guardiola in the previous three years, and Lewandowski was quite open to insist that improvement is required ahead of the new season, he said: "It does not hurt anymore, but it did at first. Maybe because I was not completely satisfied with the way my team helped me. Immediately after the last game, I felt anger. I was disappointed with my team. That was the feeling I had."
Lewandowski had been partnered with the likes of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery in the forward line, and this has not gone particularly well with the Pole, who could favour players with more robustness alongside him. Bayern have also started their search for a world-class attacker this summer, and it appears that Alexis Sanchez could be the answer to Lewandowski's demands ahead of the 2017/18 season.
The Chilean's agent has already held initial talks with Bayern officials over a proposed move, and there is a distinct possibility of pulling through the deal with Sanchez reluctant to extend his Arsenal contract beyond 2018. Sanchez contributed 30 goals and 15 assists across all competitions for Arsene Wenger's men, and he could add the extra zest required in the Bavarian attack.
