Bayern Munich are retraining their faith
It appears that Bayern Munich are retraining their faith in manager Pep Guardiola despite yet another poor campaign.
The German club were overwhelming favourites to win the Champions League and potentially a treble with success in the German club. Yet, this season has finished in a disappointing fashion after Bayern were knocked out in 2 cup competitions in the space of a few weeks. This has left them with only the league title to celebrate come the end of the season. This is unlikely to be seen as a major achievement given the financial disparity between Bayern and the rest of the league.
Despite the disappointment, Guardiola looks set to continue in his role as the Bayern Munich manager. Furthermore, the club are looking into the possibility of extending the contract of the former Barcelona manager, who has been linked with Manchester City amongst other top clubs. Guardiola’s contract comes to an end next summer and this is seen as the vital reason behind the exit speculation. Club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says that the manager could be offered a new deal to extend his stay beyond 2016.Rummenigge also blamed the media for trying to create a campaign against Guardiola’s possession style of football after his failure to reach the Champions League final in two attempts.
"It is no accident that Guardiola is one of the world's most coveted coaches. If at some point he says 'I'm going to do something new', there will be at least 15 top clubs forming a queue.Don't forget that he has won five titles here in two years, which I believe is a club record. We have agreed that we will talk about his future in the second half of this year, which is how things still stand. And he knows my opinion: I want him to stay," saidRummenigge.
