Robert Lewandowski on Chelsea radar amid Maurizio Sarri’s arrival
Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has reportedly emerged as a potential target to bolster the Chelsea frontline amid his desire to pursue a fresh challenge. The Poland international has found most of his success in the German Bundesliga but he is now prepared to test himself in a new league as he enters the latter stages of his professional career.
According to SportBild, the 29-year-old has been touted for a potential move to Stamford Bridge with Sarri expected to rebuild the club’s attack during the summer transfer window. It is added that the Pole’s arrival could trigger the departure of Alvaro Morata, who struggled to impose himself during his maiden campaign in the Premier League.
Nevertheless, any approach is expected to be delayed until the arrival of Sarri, who has yet to resolve his difference with Napoli. The Italian coach has already been dismissed from the managerial role at the Naples outfit but he has yet to negotiate a compensation sum amidst his shrewd relationship Aurelio de Laurentiis.
Despite this, a breakthrough is expected to be reached in the coming days and this is expected to coincide with the release of Antonio Conte from Chelsea. The 48-year-old did a credible job in leading the club to FA Cup success last term but the failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League appears likely to cost him job.
Meanwhile, Lewandowski is presently with the Poland national side at the World Cup but he is expected to return home before the end of the month after the nation were eliminated from the race for the knockouts. Poland have already succumbed to defeats to Senegal and Colombia but they still have the opportunity to end the campaign on a high whilst damaging Japan’s World Cup prospects. Lewandowski has yet to find the scoresheet at the tournament.
